Yeshua

& the Predictions

Birth, Purpose, and Triumph of Messiah

Prediction: Genesis 3:15

In the first of the predictions about the Messiah in the Jewish Scriptures, God Himself declares the ultimate defeat of Satan at the hands of the Messiah. Yeshua’s followers later explicitly describe his purpose as being “to destroy the works of the devil.”

Temple Still Standing

Prediction: Zechariah 11:11-13

In a surprising revelation, the text predicts that the Messiah will be betrayed in the Temple. The Temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 and has not been rebuilt since, indicating a clear time window for this prediction to be validated. Before it was destroyed, Yeshua was betrayed to death in the location described for the exact amount of money listed in the passage.

Born of a Virgin

Prediction: Isaiah 7:14

A prophet by the name of Isaiah is recorded in the holy texts as saying the Messiah will be born to a virgin. At the time she learns of the pregnancy, Yeshua’s mother first response is to declare she is a virgin. Confirming her statement, an angel tells the man she is engaged to that what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Suffering Servant

Prediction: Isaiah 53

One of the lengthier passages predicting the Messiah’s actions in the Jewish Scriptures, the text predicts that far from being welcomed as a great hero, the Messiah will be despised, rejected, and ultimately put to death. This prediction is fulfilled in numerous points in the accounts of Yeshua’s death.

From the House of David

Prediction: 2 Samuel 7:12-13

Becoming even more specific, the ancient texts predict that the Messiah will be related to King David. Yeshua’s genealogy lists his ancestors by name, tracing his ancestry all the way back through the dynasty of the House of David directly to his famous relative.

A Prophet like Moses

Prediction: Deuteronomy 18:15

Moses, one of the greatest figures in Israel’s history, predicts that God will raise up a great prophet from among the Israelites. During his lifetime Yeshua asserted that he was the one written about, and many other witnesses affirm this.

From the Tribe of Judah

Prediction: Genesis 49:10

Eliminating eleven of the twelve tribes of Israel, Jewish Scriptures predict that the Messiah will be a descendant of Judah, the line through which kingship will pass. Among the early ancestors listed in Yeshua’s line: Judah, son of Jacob.

Humility of the Messiah

Prediction: Zechariah 9:9

In stark contrast to the pomp and splendor typically demanded by those of high rank during this period in history, Hebrew Scriptures predict that the Messiah will be “lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.” When the inhabitants of Jerusalem go out to welcome Yeshua, they find him riding on a young donkey.

Location & Birthplace of the Messiah

Prediction: Micah 5:1 (5:2 in the Christian Bible)

Singling out the small city of Bethlehem by name and geographic location, the Scriptures predict where the Messiah will be born. During the reign of Herod Archelous, in approximately 4 BC Yeshua is born in this precise location.

Death of Messiah

Prediction: Psalm 22:6-18

“They have pierced my hands and feet.” Part of a passage written 800 years before crucifixion began to be practiced by the Romans, this text describes both the means as well as the scene of the coming Messiah’s death, later mirrored in the description of Yeshua’s death.

Descendant of Abraham

Prediction: Genesis 12:1-3

This passage in the Jewish Scriptures predicts that all families on earth will be blessed through Abraham, the father of the Jewish nation. A later passage (Isaiah 42:1-8) clarifies that this blessing will come through the Messiah. Yeshua’s genealogy lists him as a “son of Abraham.”

God in the Flesh

Prediction: Isaiah 9:6-7

One of many passages that predict the Messiah will be immortal, this passage also predicts that the Messiah will in fact be God Himself, using titles that belong only to God. Towards the end of his life and after his resurrection, Yeshua’s followers begin to apply these titles to him.

The chance of 8 of these predictions coming true is 1 in 1017.

How big is this number? Imagine a friend put ten silver dollars in a box, marked one, blindfolded you, and then asked you to pick out the marked coin.

The chance of you picking out that one marked coin is only 1:10. What about 1 in 1017? Well, let’s use silver dollars again. Only this time, instead of a cardboard box we’re going to fill...

The entire state of New York..

...and the silver dollars will be two feet deep...

…And we’re going to do that nearly five times.

Once again, you will be blindfolded. You will fly over five New Yorks, pick one, pick a place to land, wade through coins two feet deep and pick up a single coin.

The chance of that coin being the marked one is 1 x 1017.

A one followed by seventeen zeroes is for only eight predictions. One mathematician figured out the chance of forty-eight of these predictions coming true. That number? 1 x 10157 That’s a one with one hundred and fifty-seven zeroes. It looks like this:

And that’s for only forty-eight predictions. Many scholars believe Yeshua fulfilled...
